I’ve spent most of the last decade in South East Asia, living, working and traveling. Usually I always had my uke and my iPad with me on those solo adventures and over the course of those travels I recorded a lot of short instrumental pieces. I can’t draw or paint to save myself so I tend to make note of my experiences and feelings through music. Some of these eventually became the musical basis for songs by my brother and the Aerial Maps. I decided to collect the raw recordings and put them together as an extended musical snapshot of my travels. Recorded in beach-shacks and hotel rooms in various locations around SE Asia. They are short, no frills, DIY pieces, but they feel authentic, at least to me. A few bum notes, random noises and unintentional jazz timings..they all creep in. I can feel the heat, smell the street food and hear the chaos in them. I hope you can too. Available as a free download. Late at night with a beer, doing the dishes, stuck in traffic…hopefully it brings a bit of beauty to the everyday. Cheers.
