about

I’d been wanting to do a vinyl release for sometime as I’m a massive fan of the sound and feel. I picked a cross section of songs from the three solo albums then re-ordered them as I would a stand alone album.
I’ve often written about time passing; past travels, loves, heartbreaks and adventures…but I’ve always tried to look at those events as somehow being positive, they all helped shaped the present and in turn the future. The idea for ‘These Shining Years’ is basically that now is the time, the present is all we’ve got, and to try and see it as wonderful….that it’s at least as great as ‘the good old days’ and possibly even better. The song ‘The Old Ways’ touches on this idea that everything is connected…that the past and the future connect through you in the present….just being aware of that helps me to appreciate each day more. I also see the 5 years over which these songs were written as a distinct and unique era as it basically includes the Covid years and the immediate aftermath. At times these years were very tough but I also managed to produce some of my best work in this period…so in many ways creatively, for me at least, they are ’Shining Years’.
